Vocational training ´Dual Plus´ for disadvantaged young people in Georgia
Twenty years after the collapse of the Soviet Union life in Georgia is still really difficult for social underprivileged families. More than one third of the population (about 1.5 million people) are living below the poverty level and live on less than 2 $ per day and person.

Disadvantaged young people in Georgia tend to have less opportunity for a vocational education. That is the reason why we, together with our Georgian partner organisation ´Life Chance´, started a pilot scheme in vocational training in the field of car repair service for this target group in summer 2010.
The training is based on the “Dual System PLUS” and includes:
- Theoretical education in a vocational school
- Practical ‘on-the-job-training´
- Comprehensive socio-educational support
Because of the Georgia´s education policy just 60% of one age group get possibilities for vocational training or higher education. For the remaining 40% (about 16 000 young people every year) there are no perspectives of apprenticeship and consequently no chance of a self-determined and self-financed life.
People concerned are mainly young disadvantaged people like refugees, youth out of children homes and youngsters from poor families.
Because of our long-time experiences out of projects with this target group we know many individual life stories, which were the reason to start this project.
Qualified education prevents from life on the streets, from drugs and criminality and helps a whole family to overcome poverty.
